Descriptive registers, 1829-1903.

Normally, entries show the name, prisoner number, age, nativity, occupation, complexion, stature, length of foot, eye and hair color, and marks (scars) of the convict; the dates that he or she was sentenced, received and discharged; the crime and sentence; the place where the person was sentenced or convicted; the number of times that he or she was convicted or incarcerated; and the date that the sentence was to expire. Written remarks about whether the inmate could read or write, or noting the number of days added to the sentence and why, are sometimes entered as well. The entries date from October 22, 1829 to September 15, 1903.
